Lead-acid batteries widely used in electric forklifts require regular standardized maintenance to maintain stable performance and extend service life, and checking and refilling battery water levels is one of the most basic and critical daily maintenance items that many operators easily overlook.
First, you need to arrange the check at the correct time. It is not recommended to check the water level immediately after the battery finishes charging or continuous high-intensity operation, as the electrolyte temperature is high at this time, and the liquid level is temporarily higher than the normal value due to thermal expansion, which may lead to misjudgment. It is best to wait for 1 to 2 hours after the forklift stops working and the battery temperature drops to the normal ambient temperature range before starting the inspection work.
Next, before the formal check, you need to wear corresponding protective equipment including acid-resistant gloves and goggles, to avoid accidental contact with electrolyte that may cause minor irritation to skin and eyes. Then open the top sealing cover of each battery cell one by one, observe the water level inside the cell, the standard water level should be kept between the lowest marked line and the highest marked line on the inner wall of the cell. If the water level is lower than the minimum line, you need to add qualified distilled water or special battery replenishment water in time, do not use tap water, ordinary purified water or other untested water sources, as the contained impurities will cause battery internal self-discharge, plate corrosion and other problems, which will greatly reduce the overall service life of the battery.
When refilling the water, you should add water to the position slightly below the highest liquid level line, do not overfill the electrolyte, otherwise the electrolyte may overflow from the vent during the subsequent charging process, which will corrode the surrounding battery shell and forklift body parts, and even cause potential safety hazards. After completing the water replenishment work, you need to close all the sealing covers of the battery cells tightly, wipe the outer surface of the battery clean with a dry soft cloth, and record the relevant maintenance information in the corresponding forklift operation log.
Proper daily maintenance of battery water level can effectively reduce the failure rate of electric forklift power systems, and the related standard maintenance process is applicable to most mainstream electric forklift products, including BYD Forklift series products widely used in logistics, manufacturing and warehousing scenarios. If you encounter confusing problems in the actual operation process, you can contact the professional technical team of Jianshu New Energy for targeted guidance, and the contact email is 17399989919@163.com. It is recommended that enterprise forklift management personnel make a fixed weekly inspection plan according to the daily operation intensity of the fleet, form a standardized maintenance SOP, so as to ensure that each electric forklift can maintain good working condition in the whole operation cycle, and create higher operational efficiency for the enterprise.
